*Administrative Assistant
30 hours/week (M-F, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.)
Summary of Job Description: Under the direction of the Administrative Coordinator, this position is responsible for providing a wide array of administrative support to Peregrine School staff and teachers in a busy school office where priorities are continually fluctuating. Desired individual will have an outgoing and friendly personality, demonstrated professionalism and tact in communications with a diversity of individuals, strong organizational and time management skills and acute attention to detail. This position is based at the school’s Early Childhood Center in West Davis but may also require travel to work at our Elementary School site in South Davis.

Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree (AA/AS) or equivalent; three to five years’ related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Windows and Macintosh operating systems and with Microsoft Office 2007, ProCare, Google Docs and Internet Explorer/Firefox.
- Minimum of 50 wpm typing.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; ability to manage priorities and workflow.

Job Description:
- Answers and screens telephone calls in a professional and timely manner; takes and delivers accurate messages with a high degree of professionalism and courtesy.
- Exercises considerable judgment and discretion in handling requests for appointments and telephone calls.
- Meets and greets visitors; gives private and occasional group tours of the school.
- Interacts with enrolled families in a professional and courteous manner to answer questions, provides information, and addresses concerns.
- Demonstrates a high level of professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
- Composes, types, and distributes professional correspondence and memoranda, emails and faxes, using individual initiative and as assigned.
- Proactively maintains highly organized filing system; files correspondence, student and employee paperwork, and other non-financial records.
- Maintains and distributes current contact lists for families, staff, substitutes, and interns.
- Maintains current lists of enrolled students with accurate schedules and tuition rates; creates monthly sign-in/-out and roll call sheets; maintains master contact list for all individuals associated with the school (current and former families, current and former staff and interns, business partners, interested public, board and executive committee members, donors, etc.).
- Manages family task participation; coordinates with teachers and other staff to produce list of necessary tasks, distributes task sign-up list, and follows up with families on task work.
- Reviews sign-in/-out sheets monthly to apply all family account fees and volunteer credits.
- Assists the Administrative Coordinator in managing the school’s intern program; conducts intern interviews and orientation tours; schedules intern shifts.
- Schedules substitutes to relieve teachers for staff meetings or teacher absences during school hours.
- Provides daily support to Peregrine teachers as needed, including but not limited to, calling parents, sending emails, reporting maintenance issues, running errands, or troubleshooting office equipment.
- Orders and maintains office supplies; coordinates equipment maintenance.
- Acts as emergency backup to the school chef in the event of her emergency absence, working with kitchen interns to prepare food using an emergency food preparation guide (will perform light training with chef upon hiring).
- Performs general clerical duties, including but not limited to filing, photocopying, faxing, and mailing.
- Travels between and works at all Peregrine School sites as necessary (Early Childhood Center and Elementary School).
- Assists with delivery of lunch to elementary site in South Davis on occasion, as needed.
- Assists with special projects or does research as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Administrative Coordinator and directors.
Hours: 30 hours per week; office hours are 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Compensation: $10/hour
Benefits: Medical insurance is partially funded by Peregrine School through a group plan for staff working more than 25 hours/week.

*Spanish/Associate Teacher, Primaria Classroom (4-6 yrs)

Job Description:
- Works collaboratively with the head teacher and other Primaria teaching staff to develop projects and themes to support an innovative, exploratory curriculum.
- Plans, implements and evaluates the Spanish program for the pre-k/kg students.
- Is directly involved in planning and leading lessons and activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development; organizes small group instruction and other activities in Spanish, including thematic projects, storytelling, music, and arts and crafts. music, and storytelling.
- Practices positive discipline techniques. Contributes to ensuring that the classroom remains physically and emotionally safe for children at all times.
- Demonstrates a high level of professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
- Sits down to family-style lunch and snack with Primaria children, teaching and practicing table manners. Assists children in hand-washing and toileting.
- Assists with child portfolios as instructed by the head teacher. Portfolios on each child include photographs, narrative descriptions, developmental assessments, observations of each child, etc.
- Greets parents arriving each day and offers all parents an update on their child’s day at pick-up time. Interacts with enrolled families in a professional and courteous manner to answer questions, provide information, and address concerns; redirects parents to the head teacher, directors, bookkeeper, or administration if necessary.
- Participates in parent-teacher conferences on each child, once in the fall and once in the spring, as assigned by the head teacher.
- Keeps classroom clean and ready for each day, providing a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and imaginative play.
- Ensures that the yard is cleaned up often and kept neat, assists with maintenance of school garden.
Hours: Peregrine School’s Primaria program includes curriculum hours from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and day care hours before and after school from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. five days a week. Teachers work all or part of these shifts. The particular duties vary according to the shift. Some Primaria teachers work only during curriculum hours, while others also complete time in the day care. This is a professional job which will run for ten months (September 2012 through June 2013).
Compensation: This is a salaried position with the salary negotiated in relation to the qualifications of the candidate.

We are currently accepting applications for substitute teachers and aides for all Peregrine School programs: Escuelita (ages 2-4), Primaria (pre-K/Kindergarten, ages 4-6) and Elementary (grades 1-6).
Qualifications: Associate's degree (AA/AS) or equivalent; one-to-three years related experience. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) preferred. Twelve units of ECE or equivalent preferred. Willingness to work with others to create a positive, child-centered classroom community.
Compensation: $9/hour. Hours will vary as our programs operate between 7:00 am - 6:00 pm.
