The Panda Summer Camps continue our school year Chinese Immersion preschool program in two-week summer sessions. Emphasis is on 80% Mandarin Immersion while carrying out a Reggio-inspired, play-based preschool program. Newcomers to both Peregrine and to Mandarin language are welcome, especially if they plan to enroll in Pandas or Dragons in the next school year. Chinese cultural arts and exposure to Mandarin characters are included in the program.
Sessions are 2-weeks long, with 4 sessions running from 6/21-8/13. All Pandas camps must be paid in full to reserve a spot.
Students will learn to count in Chinese and the origin of some simple Chinese characters. They will expand their Chinese vocabulary through stories, arts, short videos, games and other kid-friendly activities.
Session 2: 7/05-7/16
Pandas - Cooking
Through real cooking and fun games students will make yummy and simple dishes, like noodles, dumplings, fried rice, and more! We will also introduce students to Chinese food and culture through engaging activities.
Session 3: 7/19-7/30
Pandas - Chinese Art
Students will practice their fine-motor skills through the crafting of traditional Chinese art such as paper cutting (lanterns, window decorations, etc.), origami (zongzi, windmill, etc.), braiding (Chinese knots, bracelets, etc.), and creative drawings (number drawings, finger drawings, blow painting, etc.).
Session 4: 8/2-8/13
Pandas - Chinese Architect
Students will build pagodas, the Great Wall of China, and skyscrapers, as a way to appreciate the many different styles of architecture and building in China from ancient to modern times. Children will use blocks, cardboard, and recycled junk to construct wondrous cities, walls, and towers.
