Fall 2020 ELEMENTARY

AFTER SCHOOL CLASSES

After School classes are held on a trimester basis at Peregrine's south campus for elementary-aged students. Subjects vary from trimester to trimester. Fall 2020 classes will be held on September 8th, 2020 through November 13th, 2020. Classes are 1 class session per week for 10 weeks, with the exception of Spanish which will be held 2 times per week. 

 

Classes will be available for registration in 5-week increments. The registration deadline for the second session is Wednesday, October 9th, 2020. All registrations made after October 9th, 2020 will be subject to a $20 late enrollment surcharge.

Little Mandarin Institute

Peregrine School is happy to continue hosting the Little Mandarin Institute, a series of enrichment and immersion classes focusing on the Mandarin language and Chineses culture. Classes are offered after school through Zoom every day!

  • Collage and Assemblage

    Mondays, 4:45-5:30 PM, grades 3-6

    Learn how to tell a story through images. We will collage with both magazine images and colored paper. 

    We will cover basic assemblage techniques and students will build box assemblages from objects they bring to the "classroom" and/or unearth in the field. Students will work on finding their own voice in art-making and what drives the sculptures/collages they create.

  • Mixed Media Art 

    Tuesdays, 4:45-5:30 PM, grades K-2

    In this class, students will explore how to create art in a variety of mediums. Students will have the chance to experiment with mediums such as acrylic, collage, and more! This class is a great introduction to different forms of art production and will allow students to be creative, think outside the box, and create artwork inspired by their own interests! Artwork created throughout the class will be exhibited in an art show at the end of the trimester.

  • Snacks, sides, and sweets!

    Wednesdays, 3:30 - 4:15 PM, grades K-2

    Learn to make tasty snacks for yourself, side dishes to add to the dinner table something sweet to share with your family. 

    We will use easy to find staples you will likely have in your pantry and fridge already. Recipes and ingredient lists will be sent to families a few days prior to the class to ensure time to go to the store. Children are encouraged to do as much as possible themselves, but we ask parents to remain nearby to assist if needed.

  • CHess II: Intermediate-Advanced

    Thursdays, 3:30-4:15 PM, grades 2-6

    This class is designed for players of all ages who have mastered the basics of the game. Tom emphasizes the fundamental rules of play, basic tactics and strategies, problem solving, teamwork, sportsmanship, and the importance of playing informal games with family and friends. 

    Please contact Tom at chess@peregrineschool.org if you would like to discuss the proper placement for your student. Students receive additional materials (books and strategy guides) at the end of the course!

  • Introduction to Spanish (Beginner)

    Tues. & Thurs., 4:30 - 5:15 PM, grades K-6

    This class is for all students who are new to the language or have little knowledge of the basic Spanish vocabulary. 


    Students will learn through fun and engaging digital tools, the basic vocabulary such as:  Colors, Numbers 1-20, Shapes, Family, Food,  etc.


    The class will be given in a remote learning setting.

  • What's for Dinner?

    Fridays, 3:30 - 4:15 PM, grades 3-6

    Help your family get dinner on the table! In each class, we will make a dish that you can add to your dinner for the night. From simple vegetable dishes to hearty salads and even a dessert, we will not only make the dish but talk about how you can change it to match your families needs and tastes.

    We will use easy to find staples you will likely have in your pantry and fridge already.
