DEVELOPMENTAL
ART SHOW
Every year, we ask all of our students, ages 18 months to 12 years, to respond to the same prompt through art and artist statements. The resulting art show illustrates the developmental changes that occur throughout childhood and gives students the opportunity to express their own feelings about the prompt.
The question which children will respond to this year is simple: "What is your favorite time of day?". Please scroll through the galleries and select an image to get a larger view of any of the pieces.
El Nido - 18 to 30 months
"Draw. Yeah. Bye-bye. Uh-oh. Hi!" *waves* *fist bump* "High fi!" *high fives* "Yay!" *claps* "Cooh! On dey. Uh date. Yeah."

“My favorite part of the day is the morning. It’s my favorite part of the day because I like going to school. I wake up and I remember the things that I need to do. Before school I need to get ready for school. Mommy puts on one shoe and I put on the other shoe. We get in the car with my mom and my dad and also my brother. Before we go to school we stop at the red sign and then we go to school. When I get to school I am so happy. I love school because I get to be with my friends.”

"My favorite time of day is science because I like experiments. My project shows when my class put bugs in boxes and did different experiments with the bugs. Something I want you to notice is that the boxes are different. The materials I used are paper, pencil, and colored pencils."

"My Favorite Time of Day is when I get home from school and I can play video games. I like this time most because I can play Cookie clicker, Minecraft and watch Youtube without any interruptions. Except for my brother when he wants to play Minecraft with me. Which he wants to do every day every half an hour it is sooooooooooooooooooo annoying. I usually just say no and hope he doesn't do it again but he always does want to do it again tomorrow my favorite youtuber is dream he is so cool."
"My favorite time of day is when I sleep or take a nap. I like to sleep or take a nap. What you see in the picture is me in my own world. I'm a deep sleeper so I'm in the corner in my sleep like I'm dead. Sleeping is my favorite time of day because I can just fall asleep and forget about my problems. Also if I'm cold I can just hide under the covers and fall asleep. I want you to notice my face in the corner of the picture. The materials I used were watercolor, pastele, and pencil. I hope you like my picture."
"My favorite time of day is the time when I am done with all my extracurricular activities and I am done with school and my homework. What you’re seeing in the art is my room with my computer on and I’m usually outside playing video games or watching TV. This is my favorite time of the day because I usually don’t get enough time to relax and do things that I would like to do, so this time of day gives me enough time to kick back and relax as much as I like. The reason I decided to draw this is because the rest of my day is great and I really enjoy it but this is the most relaxing time of my day by far. One thing I would like you to notice is how I did a close up on my computer and I did this because you really can’t see what’s going on on the screen. The materials I used for this project were pencils, sharpies, and colored pencils."
"My favorite time of day is when I get to climb into my bed and fall asleep. And in my drawings you can see that I put Z’s over my face to signify that I am asleep. I put two pillows and a blanket because that's what I sleep with. I like the time of day where you get to fall asleep because you can just relax and maybe dream about something fun. Sometimes when you fall asleep you get nightmares and that's not fun because they're scary. And the bed in the drawing is kind of shaped like the bed that I have in real life."
"My Favorite time of day is playing video games. I like to play video games because it helps me relax. I also like to play video games because I can play with my friends online. When I play video games I usually play with Tommy. The only thing I don't like is when Tommy gets mad he starts to say “hedgehog.” When he says “hedgehog” I get really annoyed. I also play with my friend William. The only thing is William is a rager and he gets really mad when I screw up or we lose an arena match. My favorite games to play with my friends are Crab Game and Fortnite. Crab Game is a game where you can play Squid Game and its 1000X better than the real show AKA Squid Game. Fortnite is a battle royal game but you have to survive till you are the last person standing. The way you survive is you have to eliminate people to survive. When you eliminate a person you get their loot. The loot is mostly paintball guns. When the last person fails the targeting range you will win. When you win you get a dub/win. And when you win the match will go into slow motion to make it look super cool. After you win you have a few seconds to run around and build. When you leave the match of Fortnite there is a lobby where you can change your skin. You can also change your glider, paintball gun wrap, and backpack. Also when you win a game of Fortnite Battle Royale you get a special glider for winning. You can only get the glider once. But when the new season happens there is a new glider winning. And that is why videogames are my favorite time of day. ANDY OUT!"
"My Favorite Time of Day Is when I come home from school and I get on my computer and play Fortnite with my friends. And it's even better when there is a cash cup. And I play with my trio sometimes I will play with Michael and Simon. And sense im the best I full box kids and make them look like absolute flopers that's fun. Simon and Micheal are literal physical good players. It's really fun if there's fncs on that day because I get to play with my trio and win. End games in FNCS are fun. There's lots of people in the end game doing stuff and trying to kill you. It's very competitive and fun."
